What does the differentia on the 8082C actually do?

A |
The differentia on the 8085C and the 8082C is only used in the PUMP mode and has no affect in the NORM mode. The differentia number is the number of degrees F below the target temperature that the AUXILIARY heat shuts off. The best setting for a mild climate is 4F so the heat pump is doing most of the heating. In a cold climate, 2 is the best setting because the heat pump may not be able to keep up and or may quit in severely cold climates.
