Q Why after installing a new thermostat, is the temperature fluctuating?

A If your heating system sounds like it is cycling on and off too often, first try increasing your SWING setting on your thermostat. If that does not help, the problem could be your heating system’s stack switches or stack settings that control the fan.
To check this, change your thermostats fan switch from AUTO to ON. This leaves the fan always running. Now check your furnace to see if it is coming on and off. Another check is to remove the thermostat from the wall. With a piece of wire or an un-wound paper clip, connect the RH terminal to the W terminal on the back plate. This will turn on and hold on your heat as long as RH is connected to W. If it still short cycles, the problem is in the furnace.
