No! Rite Temp thermostats run on 3 Volts (2 x 1.5 volt batteries), and the "Battery Low" light comes on at about 2.6 Volts. The thermostat stops working at about 2.5 Volts. Two AA rechargeable batteries only put out 2.2Volts, which means that there maximum power level is too low to operate the thermostat.
