Q Why does my heating and cooling system not work?

A For NON heat pump systems. Check that all the system wires are connected to the proper terminals on the new thermostat. Be sure they are connected exactly as they were on the old unit.
Troubleshooting procedure - With the thermostat body off the wall use a piece of wire to perform the following:
1. Connect the R terminal to the G terminal and the fan should come on if your system has a fan. If not, there is probably no power to the furnace.
2. Connect the R terminal to the W terminal and the furnace should come on. If not, there is probably a problem with the heating system.
3. Connect the R terminal to the Y terminal and the AC should come on. If not, there is probably a problem with the cooling system.
